YEAR IN REVIEW : 2015

Tomorrow starts a new year and it's time to look back at what I did / learned this year. I was recently asked to be part of a huge collab talking about what I learned by being a blogger / YouTuber in 2015 (video below). I also wanted to do a little yearly recap and talk about the goals I had for this year and of course, my goals for next years. So let's get  started cause we have a lot to cover.

This year I:

- drove for the very first time since my accident, something I was terrified to do.
- adopted a second cat, which for sure has been a challenge but I'm so thankful for this little rascal.
- launched my own lipstick. (!!)

- Entered 3 makeup contents. Which is something, again, that I was so nervous. However, entering these contests brought so many opportunities for me. I now am in contact with two major brands (that I love) and I ended up making the TOP 20 of the It Cosmetics contest... which was such an amazing blessing to me.
- went to Chicago for the very first time with Dustin. While this trip may not have went like we both planned, it brought us closer and we still had a lot of fun.

- Attending my very first adaptive camp, Camp Possability. Through this camp I learned a lot and made forever friends who understand where I am coming from and can support me.
- went back to college. UGH. You all know this was something that I was NOT excited about doing... but again, I took a risk and it paid off. This semester was so scary for me but was so good for me.

2015 was a good year for me. I can't wait to see what 2016 brings for me!

6 PEOPLE YOU NEED TO BE FOLLOWING ON INSTAGRAM

Instagram is hands down one of my favorite social media platforms (along with snapchat) and I love logging on every single day to see posts from all over the world. I try to follow people who inspire me and I thought it would be fun to share some of my top instagram accounts right now. I'm hoping I can learn to start posting more regularly so if you have any tips for that (when you're life is boring like mine, there isn't much to snap) let me know below!

6 People you Need to be following on Instagram

LunafayeBeauty: I love this girl to pieces. She started commenting on my YT channel a while back and I liked her picture so I went to her channel and fell in love. Of course I followed her on social media sites too. Kayla posts so many beautiful makeup posts and recently, she's been talking about her top lipsticks. I just love seeing her face in my feed. She's stunning.

Thegoodrichwife: I've been following Kelsey for years now. She's from around the area I live so I always saw her being talked about / tagged in posts from people I knew and couldn't deny she was stunning. I really dig Kelsey's style and her love for Christ. Her posts always inspire me and I like that about her feed.

Rawbeautykristi: Okay- Kristi is probably one of my favorite humans. I love her YT channel and she's always posting the BEST makeup looks. I love how down to earth she is and how REAL she is. I feel like I can relate to her on a lot of the things she says and that's just one of the many reasons I love her instagram. She's wonderful and you need to check her out if you love makeup posts.

Lalunamadre: This girl is one of my best friends. I love seeing her posts about her / her business that's growing so fast and her cute daughter / family. She's such a sweet person and I'm truly thankful I get to call her my friend. Whenever I went to Texas last year, I got to meet her in person and we got matching thumb tattoos. It's one of my favorite tattoos to date and I love knowing that such a sweet girl has it to match me. She's beautiful. You need to check her out + her business insta too. (BONUS: you can enter to win a custom made weaving from her NOW)

girrlscout: I've only been following this account for a short period of time but I get SO inspired by her posts. She's a photographer and I love seeing her adventures and it makes me want to get out and do more. She always inspires me to take my camera everywhere with me. I can't get over how adorable she is and I've just really been digging her feed lately.

honeyandthehive: Again, this is one of my newer instagram finds. but I love her. Her posts are so BRIGHT and fun and she's so talented. I want to fill my future home with her art and call it a day. I also really love her hair.

also- shameless promo. If you don't follow me on Insta, here's your chance. I'm @heysabrinafaith.

Let me know your favorite accounts in the comments so I can go check them out!

CAMP POSSABILITY |

The last week I went away to camp for the first time since my accident. I was contacted a few months back by a lady named Lauren who had invited me to come to Camp PossAbility, a camp designed for high function adults (with a high school diploma) with some sort of physical disability. I honestly wasn't that excited about going, as camping really isn't my thing. Lauren and I stayed in contact and I started thinking about how good this could be from me. Not only would this get me out of the house for a week, it would give me a chance to connect with others who are in a similar situation as me. The camp offered a lot of activities that I don't have the access to do at home, such as zip lining, canoeing, adaptive biking and so much more. So I decided to go, even though this was totally out of my comfort zone. My sister kept telling me it could be a God thing I went and I don't think there's a better way to sum up my week at camp.

I started to get really nervous the day of and I wasn't sure how I was going to survive a week without my phone, without my bed and without being close to the people I know and love. I tend to have trouble sleeping at night because my anxiety gets so bad and keeps me awake. The only thing that really seems to calm me down is being able to talk to Dustin or my sister.. and without a phone for a week, I wasn't sure how I was going to manage sleeping. I also worried I wasn't going to be able to make connections with people outside our disabilities and I didn't just want to focus on being someones friend because we both struggle with some sort of disability.. I wanted to form connections because we had common interests.

As soon as I started talking to people and getting to know them, their stories and their struggles- it really became clear to me that it was totally a God thing I was there. It opened my eyes to see the struggles that a lot of people face daily and it was a humbling experience. It showed me how much I truly have to be thankful for and how blessed I truly am.

I never really get out a lot because my anxiety makes it hard for me to leave the comfort of my home. I hate that I've allowed something to control me like that and coming to camp made it easy for me. I didn't have to worry about things being accessible and me being embarrassed because I couldn't get in some place. I didn't have to worry about the awkward things that come with my disability making me stand out. I didn't feel uncomfortable about my chair once because everyone there understood exactly where I was coming from in some way and nothing had to be awkward. I honestly don't think there was one point at camp that I felt overly anxious... I felt "normal" for once and that's not a feeling I'm used to.

I know a lot of people who have spinal cord injuries read my blog and that's why I wanted to share my experience about camp. I never knew there was such a thing as adaptive camps and I think that it could really benefit a lot of people to go. You get to experience a week where you're the norm and you don't even have to think twice about your disability. You just get to live life and I think that's really rad.

I wasn't sure what the week would hold for me but I'm so glad I decided to go to camp last week. I'm glad I got out of my comfort zone and tried something new. Below is the highlight video of the week at camp and some of the things we were able to do! If you're thinking about coming next year, I suggest it!

#UnderAwareness + Saying Goodbye To The Stigma

Thank you to Depend for sponsoring today’s post about the #underwareness movement.

A while back- I wrote a post about dropping my pants for the #underawareness movement and Depends is BACK with this social campaign to spread awareness about bladder leakage and end the stigma. I have shared my personal struggle with bladder leakage on this blog before and I was so nervous about sharing... but the truth in the matter is that I'm not alone. 51 million women experience bladder leakage and almost EVERY person I've met with a spinal cord injury has lost some (most of the time ALL) control over their bladder.

When you think of bladder leakage, what comes to your mind? I bet you think of old people in the nursing home but you're wrong. Bladder leakage can happen to anyone and most people who experience leakage are in their 20s! As someone who has a disability, I can totally vouch for this. I never knew that being injured COULD mean I would experience something along the lines of bladder leakage. This is a daily struggle for me and I'm thankful that Depends has this campaign going on.

The thing with bladder leakage is that is can be embarrassing and it's totally inconvenient but Depends has made it easier with their Depend Silhouette Active Fit briefs. They are moderate-absorbency and they are thin for comfort. They come in two different colors- black and beige and they look and FEEL just like real underwear. These make life with bladder leakage just a bit easier to handle and you can grab a FREE SAMPLE right now so you can try them out for yourself! I know people of all ages who have struggles with leakage and upon talking to them, you realize how common it really is.

If you are struggling with bladder leakage and feel comfortable sharing your story, I would love to hear it! Make sure you check out the #underawareness to find out how you can help end the stigma and check out the Depends page to grab a FREE sample!

F U T U R E

photo via Death to Stock Photo
Since I took a super long break from blogging, I wanted to pop in an give some updates on how life has been going. I think the best kinds of posts are the more personal ones but I do feel a bit rusty sitting here trying to write a decent post, so please excuse this if it's total crap.

After getting my license back in January I was so excited to get a job. I figured everything would go pretty fast and I would be driving by now... but I was wrong. Due to the fact that I'm having help with the hand controls, I have to go through a list of things in order to get a car modified for me. I have to depend on others and it's a financial thing, so I've had to push it off until I can afford it. This has caused me to put off getting a job and honestly, I was just feeling really crappy about myself.  I started to not feel like I was going any where in life and I felt that I wasn't really putting effort into the things I loved and that was causing me to not be happy with things I was putting out into the world (this blog, YouTube, photography, etc) and I was just really upset about everything. So I made the choice to go back to school.

5 Reasons To Adopt A Pet

Back in February, Dustin and I made the decision to adopt a kitten. It was totally spur of the moment. We went out for Valentine's Day and I joked about going into PetSmart and buying a cat. He kept telling me no, but somehow we ended up in PetSmart and walked out with a kitten. I made a video a few weeks ago and I mentioned Roland and asked if you all wanted to see more about why I think it's important to talk about why adoption is so important.

GETTING BEHIND THE WHEEL |

GUYS- I HAVE MY DRIVERS LICENSE AGAIN! I can now legally drive and I am so happy about that! Freedom is finally coming my way.

So let's back up a little so I can tell you about it all. My goal for driving was actual to be driving by the end of 2014. I pushed it off and didn't start getting things rolling until the end of the year. I finally got in touch with someone around November of 2014 and she met with me in October to go over some paperwork. She ended up getting me in touch with a man named Jon who would be my driving instructor for the hand controls.

I let my license expire when I turned 21 because I knew I would have to take a driving test again (because of my disability and the restrictions I need on my license) and I wasn't prepared for that... because I let it expire, I was told I would need to take the written test to get a permit (I had no valid license to practice driving with). I suck at tests and I had a lot of anxiety about taking the written test. I finally went in to the DMV to take the test and the wouldn't let me. It was very confusing but I ended up getting a permit that day and I schedule a meeting with Jon to practice with the hand controls.

Jon worked about 2 hours from where I live and because it's hard for me to get a ride- we decided that if we both felt comfortable, I would just take my driving test the same day I went down to practice. This was a bit scary because I had not drove since my accident and I wasn't sure how I was going to react to being behind the wheel again. I basically didn't sleep the night before because I was so nervous.. but it ended up not being bad at all.

Jon and I practiced for about 2 hours before I felt comfortable enough to take my test. Driving with hand controls was a lot easier than I thought and being in control of a car again wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. I was so shocked at how comfortable I felt. During my test, the instructor told me I was a great driver. (Jon didn't test me- someone else did) and I ended up PASSING with a score of SEVEN! I only missed two things (I braked hard once bc the brakes were touchy and I backed out into the other lane a little) so I got my license on the spot! I was so happy and so proud of myself.

Now for the future- I have to find a car. I was going to use my dads car because he never uses it but because of personal reasons I plan on trying to get another car. I should have my hand controls in about a month and then I can start applying for jobs!

I'm proud of myself for facing the fears I've had for two years and I'm proud that I'm taking control of my life again. It's a slow process but this is just another step in the right direction and it was a great start to 2015.

2015 GOALS

I find it a little weird it's almost time for a new year. I know people say that all the time, but it's true. This year has flown by and I am looking forward to sharing whatever comes my way in 2015 with you guys. Of course, we always have these high hopes of how things are going to change and be great because of the new year but I am trying to be more realistic. Last year I sucked at my goals and this year I want to really focus on setting a lower number of goals so I can focus on them more.

1. DRIVING / I already started getting this in motion within the last few weeks but I would love to get my license and gain that piece of independence back. It's a major bum having to depend on others to get me out of the house. I'm so nervous about driving but I know I will LOVE having that freedome again.

2. JOB / I am so ready to go back to work. I think it would be a huge thing for my mental health to get back around people and get out of the house.. plus of course I want a normal schedule and some extra spending money.

3. BE MORE SOCIAL / I've turned into such a homebody- and that's not me at all. I've kept to myself and pulled away from a lot of people and I want to stop that. I want get out more and not be so scared of being in public... but I know that takes little steps

4. GROW / I would like to set a goal for this blog and my YouTube channel to grow. I know it isn't about numbers but I would like to see those rise. Another thing that's important to me is making connections with others. I want to reach out to other bloggers / YouTubers and people who support me and make personal connections. My goal is to have 5,000 readers / subscribers by the end of 2015.

5.  BE HEALTHY / Okay- I know this is totally cliche and expected but I've been trying to drop a few of the pounds I've put on lately. I've already started being more aware of what I'm putting into my body and trying to make a lifestyle change. It's a slow process but I really want to work on being more healthy this year.

I'm keeping it short because I know if I sit here and list a million goals- I'm not going to be able to make all of them happen. A lot of them work together with another and I think that will make it more reasonable to hit those goals.

Do you have any goals for the new year? I'd love to know them!

I am a part of some makeup groups online and I am SO excited that my favorite group decided to do a Secret Santa- so of course I joined! I can't wait for my girl to get her gifts- but here is what I got!

INSTAGRAM NOT ALLOWING GIVEAWAYS?

Okay- this post is going to be me, just typing things as they come to my mind. It may be a bit messy and there could be typos- but this is honestly something I'm curious about and wanna just sit down and talk to you guys for a second.

Instagram announced today that they would be clearing up spam accounts and that follow counts may change due to that. With that- people have been posting that Instagram is also taking a hit to giveaways on Instagram.. and now Instagram will be viewing it as us "buying" our followers. This is going to take a huge hit to some bigger IG users and I wanted to kind of speak out about this from my personal views.

I've done my fair share of giveaways + I'm sure many of you have noticed I've been doing a lot more lately.. I enjoy being a part of giveaways because it's fun to give back to people who support you + yes, sometimes that means people will subscribe JUST for the giveaway. There's a high chance that they will stop following you once the giveaway ends + if they don't, chances are they won't be active. To me, I want to have people who truly love seeing my content and will engage. That's the fun about social media- meeting people who have the same interests as you and being able to talk about them.

Sometimes it's really hard to find those people, though. I will admit I get caught up in seeing my numbers jump- but it's clear that not every single one of those people dig my stuff.. or at least come back here to visit any other post beside the giveaway posts. That's okay- I understand my blog may not be for everyone. Joining giveaways is fun + that's why I like doing it. I know I'm going to gain numbers- but maybe not people who necessarily love my content.. and that's where it gets hard for me. I want to host + be a part of giveaways because it's FUN- but I don't like having such high numbers when those people aren't generally into my content.. if that makes sense.

I know that a while back, Facebook stopped allowing people to link it from Rafflecopter or something- so now it just says VISIT (page name)'s FACEBOOK on the widgets... I fear that eventually- we won't be allowed to do giveaways and that bums me out because I love giving back to you guys. I don't know if maybe I'm just overreacting to the situation but it seems like social media sites are making it harder + harder to host giveaways.

I join giveaways because it's fun and it also introduces me to NEW people who may really appreciate what I'm putting into the interwebz. I also really love giving back to you guys and I know that half of you are here JUST for giveaways + that's totally okay- I like winning free stuff, too. I've just really felt this weigh on me lately and today when I saw the things being posted about Instagram- I wanted to hear from others about this.

How do you feel about giveaway? How do you think it's going to hurt / help some IG users if Instagram shuts down giveaways?

HONEST TO BLOG | WORDS PT TWO

I wanted to take a second to take things a bit more personal and kind of shed some light on a post I wrote a looongg time ago. THIS post has seemed to cause a lot.. uneasy feelings in a few of my readers. I've had a few of you email me personally and tell me how it made you afraid to talk to me.

In case you didn't click the link above, I'll explain to you what the post was about. I wrote a post called "Honest to Blog: Words" a while back and I basically listed a few things I hear SO often from people who are trying to be positive or helpful but to me, I find them rude or annoying. I explained WHY I felt the way I did and I tried my best to really get across that I am not a person who gets offended easily... but I'm starting to realize that maybe my words came on too strong.

Please know that whatever you say to me (unless I can tell you're straight up being a turd)- I will not be upset or mad at you. If you've said something that made that list, please know I don't love you any less. I know that it's hard to understand things when you're not in the situation AND what bothers me may not bother someone else. I also know that a lot of that is just things people know to say or it comes naturally. I've been paralyzed for 2 years now.. so I've kind of got used to the most common things people say.

I wrote that post for me.. and also for people to kind of get a little look inside my brain. I never want any of you to feel like you can't email me or say hello to me. I do not mind talking about my spinal cord injury or even answering any questions you may have.. and I'm sorry if that post made you feel that way.

I love you all. Thanks for reading! Sorry for a random text post butttt I thought it needed to be said! Happy Hump Day, babes!

That one time I met Nev from MTV

HOLY SMOKES YOU GUYS- I met Nev last night. THE NEV- the one from MTV..

He came to a college near me to speak and my friend asked if I wanted to go with her. Of course I said yes. They had to reschedule it but we ended up being able to see him speak and it was super awesome. He talked a lot about self respect and said a lot of things I needed to hear. One thing that stuck out to me was he said if you have a dream- chase it. Think outside the box + go after what you want. I really appreciated his speech and of course HAD to get a selfie with him. He was super sweet and asked if it was okay that he bent down to take a photo with me- which I think is great. Most people just bend down automatically and some people in chairs get offended by it (I don't usually care haha)

What else has been going on in my life, you ask? Well, I've been booking photo shoots again and I am loving it. I've had a lot of people book sessions with me for practice and I am so thankful for the support.

I'm also still out of my apartment and going insane. It's been 5 weeks now + they told me another two weeks. I am super excited about how nice my apartment looks but I'm ready to be back into my own little place.

also- My Benefit Cosmetics package came! I wasn't expected it so soon but Dustin saw the box outside my apartment and grabbed it. He said it had been sitting there for over a week he thinks and I'm really surprised nobody took it. They sent SO much good things and I couldn't believe it. I am having some giveaways on my INSTA- so make sure you're following so you can win some Benefit goodies!

I also met with a lady last week about driving again. I finally feel I'm ready for that next step and I should be able to get behind the wheel within two weeks. I'm shocked it's happening so fast but also thankful. I'm ready to get a job and start being more independent.

I think that's a general update- I have posted a life update in a while and I thought it would be nice to know what's going on in my neck of the woods. What have you guys been up to? Let me know in the comments!

Benefit x Birchbox Beauty Bash!

A few weeks ago- I was picked as a Benefit x Birchbox Beauty Bash Hostess and I was so excited. I began planning RIGHT away and counted down the days until it would be National Wing
Women Weekend and I could host my party.

My whole idea for this party was being as affordable as possible and still promoting Benefit and Birchbox throughout the process. I had a ton of fun creating little DIYs for my party and see it slowly coming together. I decided to host my party on Sunday- the very last day of Wing Women Weekend. I was allowed to invite 5 of my "wing women" and together we could all try out Benefit makeup items... Fun and free makeup? Who could say no?

Picking my 5 wing women was fun- I wanted to invite people that I had a fun time around and people who appreciated makeup as much as I did. I loved that I was able to do this because it allowed me to connect with people I haven't hung out with a lot (and one of my internet friends that I had NEVER met before). It was a lot of fun! Here are some photos from the Event!

We had a red carpet where my wing women posed for photos.
For the food- I wanted to try and rename them after Benefit products (Sugar Bombs, Dandelion, "Bene"Burts, "Posi" Pops, etc) and I wanted it to be PINK and bright. We had Posi Pops (Vanila Cake Pops), Sugar Bombs (Gummy Bears), Dandelions (White Choc marshmallow) and so much more.

My sister showing off one of her FAVORITE Benefit Items- The Eye Bright.
Laughter is the BEST cosmetic- So grin and wear it!
"Criminally Sexy" Thanks for Benefits NEW Push Up liner!

Showing how the PUSH Up Liner Works.

Chris showing off the Eye Bright and They're REAL Push Up liner by Benefit. She was a great model!

Brianna has one eye with regular liner and one liner with the Push Up liner. The photo isn't the best BUT It was  HUGE difference!

Overall- I had a blast and am so thankful the Benefit and Birchbox allowed me to have this party for my friends and I. I enjoyed being around some fun gals who love and appreciate makeup like I do.

Did you host a Beauty Bash this weekend? I would love to see your photos!

depression

Today I wanted to take a moment to talk about something more serious than I normally do on this blog. I like this blog to be a fun and safe place for everyone to come and enjoy but this has been weighing on my heart far too much to not share.

On Monday, we lost a great man. A man that shaped a huge part of many peoples childhood and brought many laughs and memories- Robin Williams. Robin was suffered from depression for many months before and it eventually lead to him taking his own life. It has been proven that once a celeb commits suicide, the suicide rates go up and that terrifies me to no end and that's why I felt the need to make this post.

Mental illness has such a negative stigma around it and I will be honest, I used to think that people could just "be happy" and it would go away, but depression is much more than that. "Depression doesn't care about your income, your family, your friends or your lifestyle." and it is stated that roughly 20 million people in the United States suffer from depression every year.  If you're struggling with depression or thinking about ending your life, PLEASE seek help. Talk to someone. and if someone comes to you with these feelings, please take them seriously and let them know you are there or them. Suicide is 100% preventable.

- Kayln is so cute! I love her style and she always has really awesome thrift hauls. I feel like watching her thrift hauls has really stepped up my thrifting game too.

- I love how bold Imogen is. I found her a long time ago and saw a video she posted about being a modified female and I just had to subscribe right away. She always posts really awesome makeup looks and she's just really funny.

- I'm new to her channel but I love this girl! Her style is super awesome and she's plain beautiful. Her videos are mostly makeup tutorials and hauls, which I love! She posts full coverage looks and she's just flawless.

- I finally found another super pale beauty vlogger. She has awesome product recommendations because we are pretty much the same level of pale. Her editing skills are always awesome and she just seems so fun. I feel like we could be real life BFFs
