NYX LIQUID SUEDE LIPSTICKS + A 250$ ULTA GIFTCARD GIVEAWAY

I have been on a liquid lipstick kick lately. With so many companies making their own versions, there are plenty on the market right now. I've tried a few different kinds but I've been really wanting to try the NYX Liquid Suede lipsticks. NYX is one of my favorite brands and these liquid lipsticks are only 6.99 which is pretty affordable. There are 12 shades currently available, but I picked up 4.

First, I should say that these are pretty hard to get your hands on. Both the NYX and Ulta website have been sold out for weeks and a lot of ULTA stores are sold out as well. I'm thankful my ULTA store had recently restocked (Thanks Anna for the heads up) and I was able to get the ones I wanted. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on these and I wanted to give my first impressions today.

These do dry matte. I've seen some reviews saying these dry with a glossy finish, but so far for me, these dry matte. They do take a while to dry, though. It's not an instant matte. I find that a little easier to work with though. These are super comfortable to wear and are super pigmented. The swatches below was one swipe and these are also easy to apply. I have such a hard time with liquid lipsticks and these were easy for me to apply. So far I'm loving these lipsticks and I can't wait to wear them more and get a better feel for them.

Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month + (GIVEAWAY)

September is coming to an end and that means this will be the last giveaway for this month. I want to thank EVERYONE who has been supportive of this and joined in on helping spread awareness this month. I cannot put into words how much it means to me. This month my goal was to spread as much awareness as I could. I know with social media being such a powerful way to spread messages fast, this would be the best way to spread awareness and hopefully change someones life. I know a lot of you guys may not understand or really care about this stuff, but it could come as useful one day if you or someone you love experiences a spinal cord injury. Just THREE years ago I was heading off to my first out patient therapy center. I remember we had so much trouble finding a therapy center to take me because my age and injury, nobody wanted to work with me. I finally found a center that had no problem taking me and I was so relieved whenever we ended up being accepted. My therapist ended up becoming one of my favorites and she really pushed me to my limits and I loved that. I was so sad when we had to part ways because I met all my goals with her. One thing I'd like to see is more therapists who are wiling to take risks like she did. I'd like to see more therapy centers adapted so that people who do have a spinal cord injury can get therapy without having to search high and low for it. I know knee replacements and things are more common, but I would still like to see this change being made.

Spinal Cord Injuries: The Basics ( & a giveaway!)

With September being Spinal Cord Injury Awareness month, I really want to do my best to pack this month full of information and hopefully it will be helpful to one of you guys. Like I said in last weeks post, I didn't know much about the injury before it became my reality. I remember always having a weird fear about breaking my back because in the back of my mind I knew it could cause me to be paralyzed but I never thought much into it.

A lot of you are curious about MY personal injury and I can send you over to the post I wrote while I was still in the hospital. I feel that even though those words aren't perfectly put together, it sums up exactly how I was feeling at the time of my wreck and during some pretty intense recovery. You can find that post HERE.

I wanted to start this off with the basics about spinal cord injuries so that you can get an understanding of what the injury IS and then we can get more in depth. Whenever I speak about SCIs, I will be speaking mostly about my personal injury, as every SCI is different. What may be the case for me, might not be for someone else who has the exact same injury. Feel free to leave questions in the comments or email me. I will be doing a Q+A at the end of the month.

So, What is a Spinal Cord Injury?
- A spinal cord injury is an injury to any part of the spinal cord. This often will result in being paralyzed or having some sort of loss in the strength.  There are different levels at which the person can be injured. My personal injury level is t12, which is around the belly button. So I stop being able to feel around that area but I have movement into my hips. I've regained a lot of feeling since my accident but nothing is even close to being back to what it was before my injury.

How do they happen? Who can get injured?
- A SCI can happen to ANYONE. That's why it's so important to be educated. I met a girl in physical therapy once who went for a run, she ended up tripping and breaking her neck. What started off as a simple daily task ended up with her having to work to regain function of her arms and legs again. Around 11,000 people get injured each year and most of those injuries are from car accidents. The second highest percent comes from sports injuries. It's also stated that more men are injured then women. People can also become injured whenever they get a virus that can attack their spinal cord.

Each injury is different, no two are alike. I think it's so important to be aware because it could be you. I never once thought I would become paralyzed at 19... nobody thinks something bad will happen to them.

Today is the first day of September and that means a few things. One of those things is that it's getting closer to Halloween, which is closer to my birthday and of course, fall. September is also a really special month to me because it's Spinal Cord Injury Awareness month. If you haven't been around for long or aren't sure what's up, I have a spinal cord injury and it's very important for me to spread awareness about the injury.

I know for me personally, I had no idea about spinal cord injuries until I was told I had one and I feel like that's a pretty common thing. Most people don't know about spinal cord injuries or how they can happen.  I thought I would do something fun to help spread awareness this month.. so I've teamed up with some blogger friends to host giveaways all month long.

1. First things first, let's start off with a simple introduction. Tell us about you, your blog and how you started it all.

Hi, I'm Jan and I blog over at Jan Loves. I live in LA with my husband and two dogs and work as a social media marketing manager for an online only fashion retailer. I started Jan Loves as a diary when I moved to the Los Angeles from Manila. I used it to keep people who care updated on what I have been up to, what's been going on in my head and the whatnots. It gradually transitioned to a lifestyle blog where I share recipes, my outfits, resto reviews and the like.

2. You post a lot of cute outfits, where is your favorite place to shop? What inspires your style?

Thank you! Some of my faves are Forever21, Gap, Marshalls, H&M, Target, Cotton On, Urban Outfitters and Old Navy. If you see me at the mall and I have a bag from a store, it means there is a good sale going on at that place. Seriously. I learned to shop sale racks very early on in life. LOL  When I was a kid, my mom would give us a strict budget when we go to the mall and to make the most out of my money, I always go straight to the sale section. I think my mom, other bloggers and menswear inspire my style the most. My mom is a stickler for making sure you look and feel good when you step out of the house so that's one. On weeks I have no drive to dress up, I resort to Pinterest or Tumblr where all the most awesome outfits from bloggers collide! I also love menswear, I love wearing comfy, oversized shirts/sweaters and pairing them with something girly like a little purse, leggings or cute accessories.

3. If you could have a shopping spree to ANY store- what store would you pick?

This is tough but I think I'll go for Marshalls for this one. I love that they have every style you can think of and are pet-friendly. It's also one of our go-to places when Ron and I want shop together. Oh and the furniture and decor is a huge plus! ;)

4. You have the cutest pups! Animals mean the world to me, what are some things yours pets do that are fun and quirky?

I adore them! Having two pups is a handful but their little quirks definitely out-weigh their high-maintenence-ness. Fox is a papillon mix and he knows that his charm is irresistible. His favorite game is digging his toy out of the blankets. That game totally matches his persistence with getting what he wants. He def knows how to get attention too! I caught him making crying sounds while under the bed and when I looked down, I can see his tail (peeking out from under the bed), wagging--such a drama king! ;) Chippy is more laid back than Fox and is a real charmer. He's good at fetching meaning he actually takes the toy back to you unless he's already tired--he just hides under the bed or the dining table. He loves to eat and always sniffs my purse if I have any food that he can steal. One of his favorite things to do is bother Fox as you can see in this video. 

5. What is your best blogging advice?

Be yourself and do not force it. It's one thing to have it as a hobby and another thing to consider it as work. :)

1. Let's start off with introductions- tell us a little about yourself and about your blog. How did you get started blogging? How did you get your blogging name?

Hello! My name is Amanda but you can call me Lola. I am a 25 year old, married woman living in Pittsburgh with my husband and two fur babies. I started blogging honestly.just for an outlet. Also for a community when I was feeling alone and really struggling with my anxiety. I am sliding into my 3rd month of blogging and I just love it. I've already seen such a huge change in myself and I'm so excited for this journey. As far as my blog name goes, the name Lola is a nickname given to me out of the blue by my husbands cousin when she was about three. It just stuck. Then I like the idea of a 'lane' as a route to get somewhere and I'm just all about love. Self love and love for others.

2. You've been married for a few years and you share a lot of your story about being married to a transman. How do you think sharing your story has helped you?  (I personally know sharing my story about my spinal cord injury has helped me cope a lot... those are two different things though but I love hearing how blogging / writing has made someone grow)
I think that sharing that story, although really there is so much to it that it will take many blog chapters for the story to be told, was absolutely empowering. I got a lot of great feeback, ALL of which was supportive. It's something that I'm so incredibly proud of. I'm proud of his strength, I'm proud of our journey and I'm proud of the people that surround us. It is a lot different and also similar in some ways from your injury, Sabrina. A lot of up and downs to say the least but getting back up makes us the heros :)

3. What were the reactions of others? Do you talk about it as openly outside of your blog?
Well, I will honestly tell anyone who wants to know. Kaleb is pretty open about it as well. However, there is a level of safety that needs to be kept in our society unfortunately so it's not something we would go screaming running down the street or tell a new co-worker without feeling it out. However, on my blog, I felt safe. It was also something that I wanted out there, so it didn't have to be the elephant in the room. As far a peoples reactions, we have been lucky enough to never have a horrible reaction. People who don't approve, usually just go about their business and choose not to talk to us. Their loss.

4. What is your BEST marriage advice?
Wow! Well, we will be married for 3 years in August and together 8 years at the end of this month! Although that's not and eternity, I think it's long enough to know that two things ring true. Always, always pick your battles. I learned a long time ago that blowing my top of Kaleb leaving his clothes on the floor is never going to change him. Even though it makes me cringe. On the same coin, him losing it about me putting the cracked eggs back in the carton isn't going to make me stop doing it. Don't spend your time fighting over the little things. Just let those go. Also, I would have to say never stop 'dating' each other. Me and Kaleb have honestly made it this far because we still hold hand, all the time. We still go on movie dates, he still opens the door and I love to get dressed up, even just for him.

5. Besides blogging, what other hobbies do you have?
I really love to cook. I can't wait to get some recipes up on the blog in 2015!  Besides that? I love to scrapbook, drink coffee, watch movies, and take cat naps.
