Guest Post: Creating a Soundtrack (+ a giveaway!)

When the words are really flowing during the writing process it is like music. The words hit the page, like the notes of a song fill the air. The sentence flows together into paragraph upon paragraph, as the writer I get lost in the story. As the listener of well-orchestrated music, the melody, the rhythm, and the words of the song have the ability to maintain, set, and change my mood.

Therefore, when I am getting ready to write the right type of music is key. It is like the soundtrack to a movie, it sets the tone and helps the dialogue along. When I am sitting down to write, there are times when all I want to hear is the clicking of the keys. There are other times, more often than the latter, where I like to create a soundtrack of music for whatever it is I am working on.

For the most part, I tend to go for a mellow mix, but if I am writing a climax then climatic music is necessary to really fuel the story I am trying to tell.
