Today I Celebrate Life. (CLOSED)
June 13, 2012 started out like any morning would. I had been ignored my
alarm to get up so I could actually put my makeup on BEFORE I got to
work. Gregory had me attacking me all morning and I just wanted five
more minutes to sleep. Finally, after realizing I should have left my
house 10 minutes before, I grabbed some clothes, slipped on my new TOMs
and grabbed my makeup bag. I ran outside to my car and started to leave
my driveway. The annoying beeping coming from my Blazer was driving me
nuts, so I put my seatbelt on to make it stop and sped to work. Not even
15 minutes after leaving my house, I swerved and lost control of my
blazer. My blazer rolled twice, stopping on it's top + leaving me
trapped inside. I remember saying out loud "You have to be strong + get
through this". Finally, after what seemed like forever a man stopped and
from there it's all a blur. The impact broke my back, fractured my scapula and my lung collapsed. I was paralyzed from the hips down instantly. Today is the day that my life changed forever.
Instead of being sad, today I want to celebrate life. I want to celebrate my second chance and all the amazing things I have going for me.The last year was definitely the hardest year of my life + I'm so thankful for all of you who have stood beside me + supported me. It's hard not to look back and not to cry, but I don't want to see today as a bad day or to be sad. I want to be thankful + I want to celebrate what I do have.
A few of my blogging friends have teamed up with me to giveaway a 30$ Amazon gift card for you so that you can celebrate with me. If I were you, I'd totally save that baby and purchase a pretty little FujiFilm Instax Mini 8. That's just me, you're free to use it as you please.
We are also giving away a $30 gift card to AHSouthernDesigns. This Etsy shop has the cutest things in it + I mentioned it a while back on my TiLT post.
There will be two winners. Each winner will be picked randomly via the widget below. As always, they both will have 48 hours to reply to an email to claim their prize. If they do not reply within 48 hours, I will pick new winners. You must be 18 years or older to enter OR have your parents permission to enter. If you have any questions please contact me. Please note that my comments are moderated (darn you spam!) so if you don't see your comment at first- don't panic.. It will be there.
Super jealous of whoever wins this GC to this Etsy shop
If I won the Amazon gift card, I'd like to buy the UK editions of the Harry Potter book series that come out in the fall.
ReplyDeleteI love that Texas home necklace by AH Southern Design; I've been looking for a similar one for Massachusetts for awhile. Seems especially significant post-Boston Marathon bombings.
Wow! You are incredibly lucky that your seat belt alarm was annoying you that morning! So happy that you're alive and well. You're so strong for seeing the positive in such a difficult situation. :) Thank you for sharing your story!

Yeah. I'm very lucky. If I wouldn't have put it on- the EMTs said I probably would have been thrown out of my vehicle and it would have killed me. God is so good.
Deletewow. your accident sounds just like one my friend's sister had a few years ago, at least in the end results. she got hit in the rain and her car flipped a bunch of times. thank god for seat belts! glad you're celebrating being alive with this giveaway. if i won the amazon gift card, i'd like to pre-order the next 'in death' book by nora roberts writing as j.d. robb. great mystery with a dash of romance, a nice mental vacation!
ReplyDeletei think blogger just ate my comment, so i'm re-posting it. sorry for the accidental spam!
ReplyDeleteso glad to hear that you're okay. sounds similar to an accident my sister's friend had a few years ago. she got hit in the rain and her car flipped a bunch of times, but she walked away with only minor cuts and bruises. (the car didn't.) thank god for seatbelts! i'm glad you're using this anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate life. if i won the amazon gift card, i'd pre-order the next book in the 'in death' series by nora roberts writing as j.d. robb. futuristic mystery with a dash of romance, the perfect mental vacation!

What a relief that you survived!! Good girl, using your seatbelt. I'm thrilled that you're celebrating your life this way! I'd hope to win the Amazon gift card, so I can pre-order the next Nicholas Sparks book and use the rest of the money to buy books for my little nieces and nephews for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI never ever wore my seat belt until that day. I honestly probably wouldn't have put it on if it wasn't for the annoying noise it was making.
DeleteGood luck!

ReplyDeleteOh my god!!! That wreck looks so nasty! You are incredibly lucky and I have a HUGE amount of respect to you for turning this experience into something positive!!! Amazon is a one stop shop, I have no idea what I would reach for on there! There is a clothing brand called Allegra K that I've only been able to find on Amazon so I'd probably get another piece from them! I favorited AH Southern Designs on Etsy and I would love to have one of the "Be The Change" charms. Such a strong message! xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a great outlook on life- so pleased you got through it as best you could; I've had my fair share of illness so I understand this post! x
